Abundant winter rains eased the effects of this year’s drought. Storms in May disrupted bloom, reducing yields by a third. The terraces, planted in 1993, were picked mid- September and the wine was selected as the 2016 Monte Bello. This cool-climate mountain vineyard, with its underlying fractured limestone, provided firm acidity in a beautifully balanced wine. It will gain in complexity over the next ten years.
